Iman on Raising English Language Standards in Terengganu

- The Dean of UCSI University Faculty of Education,
Dr Kit Thomas paid an official visit to the Faculty
of Languages and Communication at Universiti Darul Iman
(UDM) at Gong Badak Campus. Receiving Dr Kit was the
Dean herself, Puan Azizah Endut. After a brief tour
around the faculty and introduction to her staff lecturers,
Puan Azizah requested for a further dialogue between
both Deans privately.
After the exchange of information of both faculties,
Dr Kit outlined the planned and forthcoming programmes,
areas of expertise and potential research areas of common
interest. There was also discussion about the possibility
of some joint activities eg community work, seminars
/ workshops.
Puan Azizah also introduced UDM and the Faculty of Languages
and Communication, their aims and ambitions, and hoped
that the establishment of UCSI University’s newest faculty
in Terengganu under the leadership of Dr Kit, with his
areas of expertise in Education – English, gender, under-represented
groups in education, pedagogy - will further enhance
the landscape of Education and the English language
in the state of Terengganu.
A few key areas of collaboration were highlighted by
the end of the meeting, from staff exchange programmes,
to co-organised seminars and workshops, and even joint
community projects aimed at improving English proficiency
in local schools.
Beyond that, both Deans also agreed the possibility
of joint-venture projects targeting the tourism industry.
Dr Kit quickly mooted the idea of a brain storming session
to be held between both members of the faculties to
produce a vision plan to support this joint-venture
between both universities and the state tourism division.
Finally, an official invitation for Puan Azizah and
her colleagues to come to UCSI University, Terengganu
Campus for a staff development day was extended by Dr
Kit to kick-start collaborative effort between UCSI
University and UDM.
UCSI University, Terengganu Campus currently hosts the
Faculty of Education, Faculty of Industrial Business,
Faculty of Science and Technology and the Faculty of
Medical Sciences. The campus offers programmes ranging
from foundation studies, diplomas, and degrees to post-graduate
