Kuching, 01 March 2010 - Today,
the UCSI University, Sarawak Campus Hospitality and
Tourism course students set up booths at the University
to showcase their knowledge about the hospitality and
tourism industry.
This was a special assignment given by their lecturer,
Ms. Ida Ingko, to enable other students and staff of
the University, pose questions to them to test their
knowledge about the industry. She stated, “This exhibition
is important not only to improve their communication
skills and share their knowledge with others but it
also serves as a fun learning tool.”
The students were divided into three groups for
three different topics : Tourism Product, Food and Beverage,
and Accommodation.
The Tourism Product group booth was very popular. They
presented various videos about the tourism and hospitality
industry, punctuated by many raffle draws giving away
complementary set meals for two at the UCSI Coffee Bar
& Bistro.
The students provided information about the many different
tourism products that are available in Sarawak such
as facilities for meetings, incentives available, conventions
and exhibition (MICE), food and beverage, culture and
natural resources. They also played videos to showcase
MICE, provided by the Sarawak Convention Bureau.
The Food and Beverage group distributed booklets and
brochures and ran a slideshow showcasing the various
types of food and beverage available in Malaysia. They
also provided complimetary food and drink samples to
guests such as cups of ‘air bandung’, as well as small
servings of ‘rojak buah’, ‘dalih’ and satay.
The Accommodation group showed slides of hotels and
accommodation around the world, highlighting how some
hotels were actually renovated prisons.
In addition, they carried out mini games which saw many
guests walking away happily with the prizes they won.
