Kuching, 11 December 2009 - UCSI University, Sarawak Campus and Travelport, one of the world’s largest global distribution system (GDS) providers operating the Galileo and Worldspan platforms, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to provide the Galileo booking platform, training materials and support for students enrolled in UCSI University’s Hospitality and Tourism courses in Kuching.

UCSI University, Sarawak Campus which specialises in hospitality, tourism and management courses with more than 200 students currently, expects to increase its enrolment by a further 200 -250 students in 2010. However, with the establishment of its new Sarawak campus in Sejingkat in 2011, adjacent to the Borneo Convention Centre, it will accommodate approximately 5,000 students.

“We are delighted that Travelport has agreed to support our Hospitality and Tourism courses by providing us the Galileo booking software, training manuals, support services and  also in “training the trainers” to ensure their familiarity with the scope and depth of the Galileo platform to provide travel agents and online travel agents,’ said Lu Huang Ying, UCSI University, Sarawak Campus Chief Operation Officer.

Thus, Travelport awards certificates to students who pass the five-day course and examination and also promotes UCSI University, Sarawak Campus graduates by helping them identify job opportunities.

“As Malaysia’s leading provider of travel distribution services, Travelport has a responsibility to contribute to the development and training of qualified agents and travel students within the travel industry. Thus, we are delighted to  work with UCSI University, Sarawak Campus to offer them our latest suite of training modules and help students understand the industry’s products and processes appropriate for today’s savvy travel customers,” said Lee Chung Chin, Country Manager of Travelport, Malaysia.
