Training Partner

University, Sarawak Campus and Travelport, one of the
world’s largest global distribution system (GDS) providers
operating the Galileo and Worldspan platforms, have
signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to provide
the Galileo booking platform, training materials and
support for students enrolled in UCSI University’s Hospitality
and Tourism courses in Kuching.
UCSI University, Sarawak Campus which specialises in
hospitality, tourism and management courses with more
than 200 students currently, expects to increase its
enrolment by a further 200 -250 students in 2010. However,
with the establishment of its new Sarawak campus in
Sejingkat in 2011, adjacent to the Borneo Convention
Centre, it will accommodate approximately 5,000 students.
“We are delighted that Travelport has agreed to support
our Hospitality and Tourism courses by providing us
the Galileo booking software, training manuals, support
services and also in “training the trainers” to
ensure their familiarity with the scope and depth of
the Galileo platform to provide travel agents and online
travel agents,’ said Lu Huang Ying, UCSI University,
Sarawak Campus Chief Operation Officer.
Thus, Travelport awards certificates to students who
pass the five-day course and examination and also promotes
UCSI University, Sarawak Campus graduates by helping
them identify job opportunities.

to the development and training of qualified agents
and travel students within the travel industry. Thus,

Training and teaching on Travelport GDS courses are
central to Travelport’s work with tertiary colleges
and training institutions in the Asia Pacific region.
In Australia for example, more than 6,000 certificates
will be issued this year to students, while in India,
more than 100 institutes offer Galileo training as part
of their curriculum to more than 18,000 Indian professionals
enrolled annually in these courses.
