Kuching, 18 August 2009 - UCSI
University, Sarawak Campus has appointed Four Points
by Sheraton Kuching as a strategic partner. The two
organisations yesterday inked a memorandum of understanding
(MoU) to corroborate this partnership.
Gracing the MoU signing was Yang Berhormat Tuan Haji
Hamden B. Haji Ahmad, who gave a speech in favour of
the two organisations’ collaborative effort in working
together towards the betterment of Sarawak’s manpower,
by developing and training skilled workers from the
State. Also present were UCSI Group President Dato’
Peter Ng, General Manager of Four Points Giuseppe Ressa,
and Training Director Mark Ferguson.
In line with the university housing the Faculty of Hospitality
and Management in Kuching, Four Points has made a notable
gesture in sponsoring and “dressing” the mock-up hotel
room that has been set up on campus at UCSI University,
Sarawak Campus.
Through this programme, UCSI University will be able
to send students to Four Points to be trained on hotel
operations, as well as to develop their skills and expand
their experience in the hospitality industry. Students
will be trained to handle events and functions organised
at the hotel, and learn while on the job, by being a
part of the food service industry. This training will
not be a one-off session, but an ongoing learning process
for the students, even while they are still studying.
As students will be trained with the skills necessary
to manage a hospitality firm, Four Points has the option
to select a number of talented individuals who have
trained with them, to continue their careers with the
hotel.
Housing guests who are local and international, Four
Points is an upper class business hotel in Kuching,
and is located just a few minutes from the Kuching International
Airport. This makes it a primary option for those who
have short stays in Kuching and wish to be close to
the airport, and thus its operations must be in the
hands of those capable of creating a warm and memorable
stay for its guests.
Four Points by Sheraton is a hotel chain under the Starwood
Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Inc. and boasts of light,
cheery features to eliminate the conventional “overtly
classy feel” that most other business hotels present.
Promising guests honest, uncomplicated comfort through
its simple pleasures, Four Points offers different types
of services to befit the needs of guests, whether their
stay is for business or leisure.
UCSI University, Sarawak Campus is the first institution
in Sarawak to be fully focused on hospitality courses
up to the degree level, and also one of the very few
to become partners with Four Points by Sheraton. The
university is also the first that is extensively linked
to many of the major hospitality industry players in
Sarawak.
Courses offered at UCSI University, Sarawak Campus are
Event and Tourism Management, Hospitality Management,
Hotel Management, Commerce (with majors in International
Business, Industrial Relations, and Retail Management),
Foundation Studies and GCE A-Levels.
