Kuching, 14 December 2009 - UCSI
University, Sarawak Campus has added The Sarawak Club
to its chain of Co-Operative (Co-Op) training partners.
The two organisations today signed a Memorandum of Understanding
(MoU) to establish this partnership.
UCSI Chief Operating Officer, Lu Huong Ying signed for
the University while the Club’s President, Shookry Gani
signed on behalf of Sarawak Club.
Established in 1876, The Sarawak Club is an exclusive
private membership club for both locals and foreigners.
Originally established to cater for the entertainment
and recreational needs of the officers of the white
Rajahs who ruled Sarawak from 1841 to 1941, it now holds
a strong historical past to become Sarawak’s pride.
Under the Co-Op MoU, Sarawak Club will provide the venue
for UCSI University’s students to undergo internship
training to cover all areas of hospitality and tourism.
Thus, UCSI University will be able to send its students
to The Sarawak Club to be trained in the areas of events
management and banqueting to develop their skills and
to expand their experiences in the hospitality industry.
At the Club, the students will be trained to handle
events and functions organised in the restaurants, dining
halls, and possibly even poolside events. They will
get to learn several traits of their future profession
while on the job and while being a part of the service
industry. Unlike the customary one-off sessions, the
training will be an ongoing learning process for the
students during their studies.
In the meantime, the Sarawak Club will also have the
opportunity to select a number of talented individuals
training with them to continue their careers with the
Club on their graduation.
UCSI University, Sarawak Campus is the first institution
in Sarawak to be fully focused on hospitality courses
up to the degree level. It is also one of the very few
to become partners with Four Points by Sheraton. The
University is also the first that is extensively-linked
to many of the major hospitality industry players in
Sarawak.
Courses offered at UCSI University, Sarawak Campus are
Event and Tourism Management, Hospitality Management,
Hotel Management, Commerce (with majors in International
Business, Industrial Relations, and Retail Management),
Foundation Studies and GCE A-Levels.
