Kuching, 30 October 2009 -
Today, UCSI University, Sarawak Campus
launched the 1Malaysia Essay-Writing Contest organised
by the Deepavali Charity Food Fair 2009 committee to
showcase students’ understanding that "1Malaysia is
essentially a reminder to all Malaysians of the importance
of harmonious interracial living".
The event began with the signing of the sponsorship
agreement between UCSI University, Sarawak Campus, Chief
Operating Officer Lu Huong Ying and Mrs. Lucy
Lingam, chairman of the food fair’s organising committee.
This partnership is based on the University’s objective
of contributing to society as well as fulfilling its
social responsibility by broadening the educational
options for school leavers.
Thus, in her speech, Lu highlighted the University’s
delight in assisting the younger generation pursue their
tertiary education and in training and developing students
to become skilled workers for the betterment of Sarawak’s
human capital.
UCSI University, Sarawak Campus will sponsor a total
of RM18,000 in the form of tuition fee waivers off the
Diploma in Hotel Management programme for the top three
contest winners.
The contest is open to Form 5 students and requires
contestants to write in 200 words about teenagers’ role
in contributing towards interracial harmony.
The contest is from 2nd - 18th
November 2009. Contestants may submit their entries
either to the contest committee members at UCSI University,
Sarawak Campus, or through their respective school principals.
Contest results will be announced at 11.00am on 28th
November 2009, at the Civic Centre.
