The Engineering Laboratories in UCSI are managed by the School of Engineering. These facilities are staffed by a Laboratory Team consisting of a Head Tutor, several Engineering tutors and two Lab Assistants. There are 8 labs including the following:
  • R & D Laboratory

There are multiple stations with dedicated PCs and various software are available in this lab required for the final year subjects and the projects. The equipment and software available here are: CPLD Trainers, Fiber Optics Trainers, MPLAB, Active-VHDL, Modelsim, Xilinx Foundation and Webpack, Wavemaker, PCB123, Orcad PSpice, Electronics Workbench, TMS320C5X DSK, Microstation and Server-based software such as Matlab and Microwave Office, which are accessible through the campus-wide network. Matlab software consists of various additional toolboxes such as Power System Blockset, Signal Processing, Image Processing, Neural Network, Communication Blockset, Fuzzy Logic and Control Systems.

The lab is also equipped with Digital Oscilloscopes, Spectrum and Network Analyzer, used to verify the results of the microstrip antennae, designed using Wavemaker or Microwave Office software and will be fabricated upon completion of design. The TMS320C5X DSK is used to construct simple and complex digital filters using the knowledge acquired in Digital Signal Processing. Active-VHDL software is used for digital design and VLSI design.

  • Electrical & Electronics Laboratory 1 & 2

Laboratory equipment includes 20 workstations; each workstation consists of test and measurement equipment such as Oscilloscope, Function generator, Analog/Digital DC power supply, Analog/Digital Multimeters. The two laboratories are comparable to the standards set by universities abroad and able to cater up to 60 students for one session.

  • Drafting & Design Laboratory

This laboratory is used for engineering drafting and design. For CAD part, Microstation drafting software is installed in the R & D Lab.

  • PCB Fabrication & Mechanical Workshop

The Workshop also supports student project work and construction of engineering product. The PCB workshop equipment includes PCB Fabrication Tank unit, UV Light Exposure Unit, Hand drill, Bench drill, Heavy Duty Workbench, Bench Vice, Tool grinder and other assorted common workshop and hand tools. The Mechanical side is equipped with Steam generators, Weight machine, Thermal efficiency apparatus, Triple beam balance, Water flow apparatus, Measurement apparatus, Weighing apparatus, Electric oven and Heat engine apparatus.

  • Microprocessor & Microcontroller Laboratory

The Lab consists of 10 workstations with PCs, each equipped with ESA 68k2 Microprocessor Training Kit complete with 11 Interfacing Application Board, PIC Trainer Kit, Digital Signal Processing TMS kits and Digital Oscilloscopes. Engineering software such as MPLAB, Orcad PSpice, PADS and Electronic Workbench are installed in PCs for students’ utilizations for their project works. Microprocessor and Microcontroller applications include real-life areas such as Traffic Light System, Stepper Motor Control, Keyboard Interface, Clock and Elevator. CPLD training kits and Xilinx Prototype boards are also available in this lab.

  • Power & Machines Laboratory

This lab is intended for Power Systems, Power Electronics, and Machinery side of Engineering. Laboratory equipment includes 6 main Power Systems, Machines and 2 Power Electronics workstations. This lab is equipped with DC shunt, series and compound motor-generator, three-phase induction motor, three-phase synchronous motor-generator set, single phase and three phase Transformers, single and three phase power supplies, Power Voltmeters, Ammeters, Wattmeters, Clamp Meter, Stroboscopes, and Digital Oscilloscopes.

  • Communication Laboratory 1 & 2

The labs are equipped with 6 main stations consisting of Electron communication panel-type training units, 10 stations consisting of 30 units comprehensive Analogue and Digital Communication Falcon on-board training kits, 2 Fiber Optics trainers, a Network Analyzer, Spectrum Analyzer, DC power supplies, Function Generators, Audio Generators, Digital Oscilloscopes, Counters and Digital Multimeters.

  • Engineering Physics Laboratory

The lab is equipped with 6 Air tracks with blowers, Audio generators, Pasco's Physics Experimental Kits, Digital Photogate timers, and other wide range of physics experiments apparatus such as basic electricity kits and coils.
