Message from the Vice President of Academic
Welcome to UCSI University’s Centre for Research Excellence (CRE) website. We at UCSI University are
serious about Research and posses an extensive R&D unit. We hope this
website will enlighten you on your possible queries with regards to research
in UCSI University.
We encourage researchers by helping them in sourcing for external funds
for large-scale research by managing an extensive database of potential
investors.
We coordinate the application for internal funding for beta-projects and
research.
We coordinate research efforts between staff and external organizations
such as in consultancy assignments.
We manage large scale research and development projects by the
University
We advocate a sound understanding and compliance of federal regulations
and university policies regarding research activities.
We regulate policies and procedures pertinent to health, safety and
ethics in all research and development work.
We protect the intellectual property rights of researchers affiliated
with CRE and explore means to commercialize and expand their work.
There
have been recent changes at CRE under the MQA concerning research:
The setting up of an Academic Board, Research & Scholarly Activities
Committee (AB-RSA) consisting of experts representing each faculty.
The AB-RSA is tasked with directing UCSI University research efforts, regulating
policies and approving research funds.
There are also Faculty RSAs tasked with coordinating research efforts
at the individual faculty levels.
The Centre for Research Excellence is to act as the executive arm of the
AB-RSA.
Research under UCSI University is now part of the Academic Team to foster better
integration and to make research part of the core academic activity.
CRE & CRDC (Centre for Research and Development Commercialization) is now merged under a new entity, but the CRE name and image
is retained.
The mission of CRE is to continue on the success built by the previous
set-up UCSI University
has continued to ensure the implementation of new infrastructure that makes
research possible. The completion of the new RM80 million state-of-the-art,
purpose built campus in 2004 has only been the stepping-stone in our efforts
to provide the required facilities for both students and staff. In less than
a year, UCSI University has built 3 additional multi-million Ringgit laboratories in
addition to the 4 applied sciences/pharmacology laboratories and 9
engineering laboratories currently in existence. Even now we are in the
midst of adding new laboratories and purchasing additional equipment. At
UCSI University we believe in constantly improving our facilities and our quality of
education to ensure our students continue to enjoy their best university
experience!
