Information on Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN) Loan

Eligibility

Applicant must :
  • Be a Malaysian
  • Not be a recipient of other loans (MARA or JPA loan) or scholarship (internal or external)
  • Have Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia SPM with at least 3 credits
  • Posses other recognized certificates to qualify for a degree programme: STPM, A-Levels, UEC, SAM, AUSMAT, CPU, CIMP, UCSI University Foundation, Local Matriculation or Recognized Diploma
  • Enrol in a Private Tertiary Education Institution (IPTS) that offers a full-time degree or diploma course that is approved by MQA & JPS
Other Criteria :
  • PTPTN loans require two (2) guarantors that must consist of the biological father and mother of the student regardless of the parents’ age and income
  • For students applying for the second time, loans extended earlier by PTPTN must be fully settled prior to a fresh application
  • Balance of study upon application must not be less than one year
  • As of 1st of January 2008, only students with SSPN (Skim Simpanan Pendidikan Nasional) account that is active at least two (2) weeks prior application are eligible for PTPTN loans

Skim Simpanan Pendidikan Nasional (SSPN) Savings Requirements

 
Income Group RM 2000 & below RM 2001 & above
Savings RM 500 RM 3000

As an incentive, a tax relief of RM 3,000 per year by Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri – LHD (Income Tax Board) will be given to those who have an income of more than RM 2,000 per month.

Online Application

Effective from 1st August 2008, all applications for PTPTN loans must be made online. Applicants need to apply through the PTPTN Online Application Website at http://epinjaman.ptptn.gov.my or http://202.184.125.150 during the opening and closing date of application. Applicants are required to open an email -- yahoo.com or gmail.com -- for correspondence purpose.


PTPTN PIN Number

The PIN number can be purchased from Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) at RM5.00 (valid for 6 months ONLY). Please keep the receipt for website log-in purposes.

Internet services for easy access to PTPTN online application.


Application and Submission of Documents

Applicants are required to submit the following documents as listed below to UCSI University personnel-in-charge, Ms. Fatmawati at the Marketing Department, for their online applications. The documents must be photocopied copies in A4 size and certified as ‘true copy’ documents.
  • Letter of Acceptance from UCSI University. (Will be provided by the institution)
  • Applicant and parents identification card (IC)
  • SPM Certificate
  • STPM / A-Levels / UEC / SAM / AUSMAT / CPU / CIMP / UCSI University Foundation / Local Matriculation / Recognised Diploma’s results
  • The first page of the applicant’s bank account. For those without bank account , please provide the account statement from the bank (CIMB Bank ONLY)
  • Skim Simpanan Pendidikan Nasional (SSPN) member’s card / SSPN deposit slip / SSPN account statement printed from the website
  • Parents’ Pay slip (at least 2 months) / Government Pensioner’s Card / Parent’s J/EA/EC/BA Form / Income Certification Form
  • Certificate of Death (if parents are deceased) or Statutory Declaration if parents cannot be detected
  • Confirmation Letter from the Welfare Department if applicant / mother / father / guardian are receiving monthly payment from the agency

All photocopied documents and PTPTN Declaration form can only be certified & witnessed by:
  • Pengetua / Guru Besar Sekolah (Govenrnment Schools only / Sekolah Kerajaan Sahaja)
  • Pegawai Kerajaan Kumpulan Pengurusan dan Professional (dahulunya Kumpulan A)
  • Pengamal Undang-undang / Pesuruhjaya Sumpah (Law practioners/Commissioner of Oaths)
  • Jaksa Pendamai (Justice of Peace) / Ahli Majlis Mesyuarat Kerajaan Negeri (Ahli EXCO)
  • Penghulu / Penggawa/ Tuai Rumah/ Ketua Kaum / Mukim Bertauliah
All the documents mentioned shall be submitted and verified during the online application as per the schedule below.


Verification Documents and Online Application Form

As required by PTPTN, all online applications must be submitted during the period given. Please submit all application to Ms. Fatmawati at the Marketing Meeting Room, Block A, 2nd Floor, UCSI University South Wing for verification.

Deadline Application

All loan applications shall be forwarded by applicants to PTPTN for processing on the following dates:
  • 28 February 2009
  • 31 May 2009
  • 30 July 2009
  • 30 November 2009
  • Applicants will be notified on the status of their application (approved / rejected) via sms and email 10 days after the above mentioned dates.
  • The processing of loan applications normally takes between 2 – 3 months.
  • Please contact Ms. Fatmawati if status of application is not notified.
*  Students are advised to be prepared to cover their own tuition fees till PTPTN disburse the loan.


Amount

The amount approved is based on parent’s / guardian’s monthly income. The amount given below is per semester amount which it will be disbursed twice a year (long semester ONLY):

Academic Performance

PTPTN will stop disbursement under the following circumstances:
  • Deferment of studies
  • Failure to complete studies within the designated time frame
  • Student’s Grade Point Average (GPA) is lower than 2.0 (50%)
Before disbursement of the loan, PTPTN will request the University to provide student’s results at the end of each semester. Please take note that PTPTN has the right to discontinue disbursement of the loan if the student’s academic performance has deteriorated.

* Please note that for those semesters which PTPTN has stopped payment, the payment will not be backdated.


Insurance

Starting on 1st June 2008, all student recipients of the PTPTN loan must sign-up for the students’ insurance policy.
  • The appointment of an insurance company and payment of premium (deducted from the loan total) will be handled by PTPTN
  • Insurance deduction will be done for the first semester only when the loans are disbursed
  • The insurance deduction depends on the total loan amount
  • For current loan borrowers whose insurance deduction prior to this is less than the amount stated, the amount will be recalculated and extra deduction will be made

Loan Repayment

Subject to the latest news, PTPTN will charge 1% service fee per year on the total outstanding loan amount. Repayment of the loan starts 6 months after graduation or as soon as you have found employment (whichever is earlier).

Usually the repayment period for:
  • Science degree is 240 months (20 years)
  • Art degree 180 months (15 years) and
  • Diploma 120 months (10 years)
The repayment can be made to Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri (LHDN) by deduction from the graduates’ salary through their employer.
