B.A. (Hons.) in English Language & Communication

Approval Code: (KA 5783; 01/10)

The B.A. (Hons.) English Language and Communication (ELC) programme is designed to equip students who do not speak English as a first language with excellent communication capabilities for professional employment in English as a Second Language (ESL). Students who are learning English as a second or additional (foreign) language will be able to develop graduate level communicative competence in English Language, and to use English effectively in professional thinking and decision-making.

As graduate employability has been a matter of concern to governments throughout the region, practical applications are strongly featured in the programme, which is geared to linking theory and practice through critical reflection to build work related skills as well as sound academic knowledge. Observation and experience of work (via co-operative modules), inquiry & project activities are integral to the learning processes of the programme.

Students will also be required to complete a Project and undergo Co-Operative Placement as part of the programme requirements. The Co-Operative Placements offer a sneak preview of what it is like in the real world of employment, and students get a chance to see what it takes to succeed in a chosen field and make important contacts that can result in permanent employment.
