Architecture is the art of designing the human built environment. Buildings are one of the most visible productions
of man, and vary greatly in design, function, and construction implementation across the globe. The visions that
Architects conceive are projected onto society and the built environment in which they practice. These conceptions
and ideas will inadvertently have profound effects on the built environment, and consequently on the people who
interact with that environment. Architecture is, therefore, an art form, the learning of which requires professional
practice, personal artistic development and technical knowledge of building. The constant dialogue between society
and the architect is what produces architecture - as a product and as well as a discipline.
The Diploma in Architectural Studies at UCSI is a 3-year program, designed to provide the necessary technical knowledge
and the required practical skill to individuals who wish to join the industry's work force at an early stage.
The building industry is in need of competent support groups who are knowledgeable in their field to fill
positions such as technical draftsperson, CADD draftsperson, site supervisors and material-supplier specialist
to name a few. In response to this demand, the Diploma in Architectural Studies at UCSI offers a well-rounded
and integrated range of subjects to prepare graduates to enter the working environment, or to pursue their
studies in the higher level of the Architecture Degree programs.
The program also emphasises on the latest industry input for each graduate. Students are required to undergo 2
industrial training sessions under Industry Experience 1&2 in collaboration with the Co-operative Placement
Scheme with a minimum duration of 7 weeks for each session, to learn and familiarize themselves with the working
environment of the building and construction industry.
