Two
former students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Melawati, Chew Kin
Yan and Wong Wan Tze topped other A-Levels students at UCSI
(University College Sedaya International) last year to bag four
distinctions each.Chew, whose ambition is to be a research scientist, intends to study Physics in the United States of America in August this year. "I love Physics because I enjoy learning about the natural world and the way how things work. A good insight of Physics is very important in helping us understand more about our universe." The second in a family of five, Chew said he prefers the Modular A-Levels programme because it offers him flexibility when choosing to sit for his examinations. "The lecturers also generally make learning easier and more fun, and this gives us sufficient time to absorb what we learn," he said. Fellow top scorer, Wong Wan Tze from Ampang said she values all the lifelong friendships that she has established during the course of her studies. "I had a great time," she said. "I have no regrets choosing to do my A-Levels programme in UCSI." The youngest in her family, Wong’s ambition is to help people in the area of health sciences. For this, she hopes to apply either to Australia to study health sciences or to Ireland for Physiotherapy. "I have not decided yet," she said, "but whatever I choose, I want to be involved in helping other people." Her advice to other A-Levels students: "Work smart and attend all the classes. Study hard and leave the results to God." According to Associate Professor Dr Yap Kon Sang, who heads the School of Pre-University, last year’s cohort of A-Levels students performed very well in the London Modular A-Levels examinations, offered by Edexcel Examination Board. "On a subject by subject analysis, nearly half of our students who took the examinations scored distinctions," he said. "We have broken the records last year with another 7 students obtaining distinctions in all three subjects that they were enrolled in." |
