ACKNOWLEDGEMENT & APPRECIATION

Greetings and a warm welcome to the fifth issue of the UCSI E-Weekly.

The month of August is when Malaysians remember the heroes who have fought valiantly for the country so that it can have the peace and independence it enjoys today. Recognition is usually given to those at the forefront.

While this is indeed a laudable gesture, it is rather unfortunate that we have failed to give due recognition to those who have been working quietly behind the scenes - the unsung heroes.

This week's feature story is on one such unsung hero, Rizal Shahputra, who survived the tsunami that devastated Banda Aceh in 2004. Today, he is doing well at UCSI.

Also, read more about the unsung heroes in our own backyard - the researchers who are creating waves for UCSI in the international arena. One such person is Mr. Zaheer Ud Din Babar, Senior Lecturer at the UCSI School of Pharmacy.

At this juncture, I would like to give recognition to the unsung heroes behind this E-Weekly, and the proofreaders who have taken time-off their busy schedules to edit the articles on this publication so that you can have an enjoyable read. My warmest appreciation go to our dedicated proofreaders, Andres, Nur Daliza, Adeline, Nadzrah, and Isabella. My thanks also go to the E-Weekly Editorial Team, Stephen, William and Thomas.

I hope you will enjoy reading this issue as much as we have enjoyed putting it together.

Vice President, Research & Corporate Affairs

QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"Character is like a tree and reputation like its shadow.

The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing."
