What is Co-Op?

The Co-Operative at UCSI is implemented to formally integrate classroom learning with workplace training in co-operative employer organizations. As part of meeting degree requirements, students in the UCSI programmes stated below, are required to complete a co-operative module comprising two months work experience in each year of their degree, beginning in Year One right through to the Final Year. Each co-operative module is worth three credits and students receive a grade based on a written assignment and employers evaluation upon completion of each co-operative module.

UCSI Undergraduate Co-Operative Degree Programmes Approval Codes

When does the Co-Operative Programme take place?

The regular Co-Operative term for all students is 1st November to 31st December. However, graduating students may do their Final Co-Operative placement before the above period. Upon completion of their studies i.e. in January, May or September, graduating students who find a related permanent job may count the first two months of their job as their Final Co-Operative placement subject to the approval of both employer and UCSI.

Benefits of Hiring Co-operative Students

Companies stand to benefit in many ways should they hire Co-Operative students such as:

  • Provide a cost-effective solution to meet short-term employment needs.

  • Opportunity to assess potential future employees.

  • Relief for full-time staff so that they can concentrate on other high priority job needs.

  • Provide a continuous flow of fresh and innovative ideas from enthusiastic and motivated students.

  • This is a mutually beneficial invaluable opportunity to not only recruit/sample talent in a cost-effective way, but also as a means of strengthening links between industry and tertiary institutions in order for the University to produce graduates who are trained and prepared for the workforce.
