1. Manungo Osward Majaya (UCSI International Student, Zimbabwe)
UCSI Programme : B. Sc. (Hons.) Food Science & Nutrition,
Year 2
Co-Op Employer: Corus Hotel, Kuala Lumpur
My experience at Corus Hotel included working at the receiving
bay right through to working with banquet staff on buffet settings. I was
mainly responsible for quality assurance, where I had to inspect raw materials
for damage or defects during delivery. I was also given the opportunity to
monitor product storage and the hygiene of storage facilities. I inspected the
products quality in chillers regularly. I was also involved in food
preparation and food tasting as part of my duty to maintain quality. I was
assigned to monitor buffet meals where I advised some guests on issues
pertaining to diet, variety and nutrition. Through my Co-Op work experience, I
have learned a sense of responsibility and discipline that is vital in
preparing me for employment. I have since outgrown the fear of making mistakes
and trying new things in order to learn important things in life.

Lok Lee Tin
UCSI Programme : B. Sc. (Hons.) Biotechnology, Dec 2006 UCSI
Graduate
Co-Op Employer: Sime Darby Technology Centre, Petaling Jaya
During my Co-Op attachment to the Molecular Biology Laboratory
of STDC (Sime Darby Technology Centre), I was given the chance to carry out a
mini-project. I found that my laboratory skills have improved and I could look
into the field of molecular biology in depth. After all three Co-Op placements
from my first year of studies to the final year, I have gained knowledge and
experience in the area of allergy and immunology, plant tissue culture,
genetics and molecular biology. I can testify that Co-Op is an important and
valuable learning experience during my study as well as in my life. I am
currently employed full-time. A large part of the reason I was successfully
selected for full-time employment at my present job can be credited to my Co-Op
experience.

Cheong Xiong Ling
UCSI Programme : B. Sc. (Hons.) Computing, Year 2
Co-Op Employer: Accenture Solutions Sdn. Bhd., Kuala Lumpur
My Co-Op experience was really good because this is my first
job. At Accenture, I was assigned to a project called EPF Project SERVE-TOMI. I
assisted in the preparation of the Operational Readiness Test (ORT) to be
conducted in 3 cycles. I helped to develop a systematic template in Microsoft
Excel form and consolidated test data for distribution. Besides that, I also
helped in preparing test result assessment forms for all the ORT participating
branches. Through all this, my confidence in decision-making has increased. I
have also learnt to be more careful and attentive, both at work and in life.
5.
Sharmini A/P Hrikerisnan
UCSI Programme : B. A. (Hons.) Mass Communication, Year 2
Co-Op Employer : Star Publications (Malaysia) Bhd., Petaling
Jaya
My Co-Op experience has benefited me in many ways! It has
given me a better understanding of my theoretical training in mass
communications. As a junior reporter, I have been exposed to the workings of
the trade including printing, advertising, circulation and, of course,
investigative reporting and news writing. It is undeniable that my course and
certain subjects that I have completed at UCSI have prepared and guided me in
many of these areas especially in my writing skills. Theoretical training I
received at UCSI has definitely provided me with a good foundation and the
basic knowledge to build on.

This Co-Op experience has been truly amazing as I got to
experience the working life in my Co-Op job at Yeo Hiap Sengs Quality
Assurance Department which consists of microbiology labs, chemical labs, canned

Working in the Sunrise Fun Zone Community Centre has taught me
more than what I had expected. I picked up a number of skills such as managing
responsibilities, team work and communication skills. I have learnt that being

10.
Lee Wing Sze
UCSI Programme : B. A.(Hons.) Business Administration, Year 3
(Final Year)
Co-Op Employer : Recruit Express, Kuala Lumpur
My Co-Op experience has benefited me in many ways. I have
learnt to be a team player and I strongly believe this is the best way to get
things done efficiently. Recruit Express is a results-oriented company. Every
team has tight deadlines and sales targets to achieve. During my four months of
industrial training (4th quarter of the financial year 06/07), I
achieved a total sale of RM 12,000 at the end of that quarter. It was difficult
to accomplish the goals but it was truly an enjoyable experience.

After working as an intern in the Finance Department, I now
know what employers expect from future graduates. Through this experience, I
can equip myself with the skills needed in order to succeed in the corporate
world in the future. It was really fun and exciting working at Traders Hotel
Kuala Lumpur because they have a dynamic working team there.
