Kuala Lumpur, 31 July 2010 -
A bell and some slides were all it took to demonstrate
to the psychology students from the various higher learning
institutions the meaning of mindfulness for relaxation
and wellness. Dr. Phang Cheng Kar, the Malaysian authority
on mindfulness-based psychotherapies introduced the
subject at the recent UCSI University Intervarsity Psychology
Convention organized by the Professional Development
Class students from the Department of Psychology.
This Convention featured research presentations by psychology
students from the various universities and colleges.
UCSI University student, Aishath Nasheeda who presented
her research on Exploring Self-Esteem Among University
Students said, “This Convention enabled me to prepare
myself for my first ASEAN audience”. Aishath will be
presenting the same research at the up-coming Asean
Regional Union of Psychological Societies 3rd Convention
in October this year.
Mr. Sylvester Lim, a senior lecturer at UCSI University
presented on the topic, “As You Think, So Shall You
Be”, while Ms. Joyce Hue, a practicing clinical hypnotherapist,
presented on “Hypnosis”.
A total of more than 120 students from 5 different higher
learning institutions attended the
one-day convention which aims to provide students with
a platform to share their research and obtain feedback,
to present additional knowledge from industry experts,
as well as a multicultural context for students to connect,
experience training and stimulate personal development.
