The year of the Tiger started with a roar for many of us
as the third week of January 2010 saw the Academic Performance
Audit (APA) being carried out at all three campuses. Not
unlike the Year of the Ox that 2009 was, we had steadily
been preparing and putting in place all that was necessary
for the audit and for our on-going expansion plans. The
Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA) came and went after
thoroughly examining our academic processes and standard
operating procedures (SOPs) but all in all, I must say it
was a very good and positive experience in our continuing
endeavours to achieve our vision and mission to be a university
par excellence.
We have exciting times ahead of us as we endeavour to expand
in both hardware and software to fulfill the
numerous needs of our stakeholders. Most urgently would
be the need for more space at our Kuala Lumpur campus, as
well as for the setting up of the teaching hospital at the
Bandar Springhill Campus, Port Dickson. As plans continue
to materialize in terms of hardware, our software
will continue to see growth with the setting up of new policies
for research and development as well as the strengthening
of learning & teaching methodologies driven by the Centre
of Excellence for Research, Value Innovation and Entrepreneurship
Centre (CERVIE) and the Centre for Learning, respectively.
The last five years have seen the university’s very rapid
physical expansion. The way forward, though challenging,
will ultimately result in a bigger, better and value innovative
institution, leading the pack in Malaysia’s quest to be
the educational hub for the region.
In this season of festivities and celebration, I would like
to rejoice in our achievements and successes together. May
we all lift the cup of joy and gladness, and toast one another’s
bountiful returns for the year past, welcoming the New Year
with God’s favour and protection.
In early 2009, I exalted the virtues of hope. This year
I encourage you to emulate the tiger : swift in action,
forward thinking, innovative and always value-add in the
areas we pursue. May each and everyone achieve the success
he or she desires, enjoy good health and together, let’s
think and act blue ocean all the way!
