Hari Raya Aidilfitri Message from UCSI University's President

Dear students and colleagues,

Here we are, back in the holy month of Ramadhan again, and soon to celebrate the joyful Hari Raya Aidil Fitri with our Muslim friends.

The Aidilfitri celebrations itself is an event that everyone, regardless of race and religion, looks forward to. There is a sense of joy and expectation in the air, a celebratory mood that engulfs everyone, which is uniquely Malaysian.

But more than that, Ramadhan reminds one that Islam is a religion that teaches discipline and strong character-building. The practice of fasting during the month of Ramadhan – denying oneself of food and water from dawn to dusk, of worldly pleasures and covetous wants, and avoiding evil thoughts about everything and everyone - is a practice that cleanses the soul and strengthens the spirit. It is a strict discipline difficult for weak characters to accomplish. So if one can overcome all such temptations, it means one has a strong and disciplined character.

Good character must be cultivated because it is the foundation of nation-building. For nations to prosper, its citizens must have strong and noble characters that will enable them to withstand life’s challenges and to overcome the temptations to do wrong. For UCSI University to prosper, we, too, need a workforce who have strong characters to help power the quality education agenda we have planned for our students.

It has not been easy for we had to face challenges along the way, but I sincerely believe the success we have achieved so far is due to the strength of your character and your commitment to excel, as well as God’s graces.

So Hari Raya Aidfil Fitri next week is a celebration of moral victory over human weaknesses. Let us all rejoice together, Muslims and non-Muslims alike, and thank God for his bountiful blessings upon us. Let us pray for peace and unity for our beloved country. To our Muslims friends. I wish you a joyous and bountiful SELAMAT HARI RAYA AIDIL FITRI, travel safely and keep healthy.
