Menopause and You:

Decision making on management of menopause:
This should be a conjoint effort between the provider and the provided. Each woman should have the option to decide on the management of her menopause. This includes Hormone Replacement Therapy.

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT):
The most important and the first option to alleviate menopausal symptoms is the use of hormones. They assuage:
  • Hot flushes
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Lax / descent of female reproductive organs
How long to treat:
As long as the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks

When to start treatment:
Best benefits of treatment are realized when treatment is started during the menopausal transition---when the woman is passing into menopause or in the early stages of menopause.

Dosage:
The lowest effective dose should be taken.
