Being a Great Sport

The gang at the University of Nottingham after an exhausting but exhilarating game!

By Norizan Sulong

There are many ways to build relationships, have fun and exercise all at the same time. One way is to have friendly matches in a sport that one loves. That was exactly what some UCSI University staff did recently at University of Nottingham. Several staff members made it a point to participate in a game of badminton in the spirit of goodwill.

All staff who agreed to attend the friendly match got their game on, and showed up at the Nottingham campus in Semenyih, even though some had not been feeling too well. Mr. Hor Meng Yew, who had had a minor accident a few days before the match, sportingly came to play; so did Mr. Kelvin Chow, who had a slight fever. It’s all about being a good sport, which is very much the case for Jasmine from the Faculty of Management and IT (FOMIT) who played her very first badminton game on the day of the match itself! Prof. Dr. Zab came along to give moral support and as the official camerawoman for the event.

Seven teams played, with four men’s doubles and three mixed doubles. Overall results were 4 - 3 in UCSI University’s favour.

The friendly competition was initiated by Rajparthiban Kumar from the School of Engineering, whose twin brother Prasad is at the University of Nottingham. Plans are in place to organise more friendly matches in the future.
