Note from the Chief Editor

UCSI University is proud to present the 2nd Volume 1st Number of UCSI University International Journal for the Advancement of Science & Arts (IJASA).

A total of five papers were accepted for publication. The first paper is ‘The Challenges of Corporate Social Responsibility Practice: A Case Study of Taiwanese Investment in China’. The objective of this paper is to use the corporate social performance model to identify the weaknesses in corporate social responsibility practice of a multinational corporation, Foxconn. The second paper chosen is ‘English in Malaysia: Concerns facing Nativization’. The author argues the need to recognise the varieties of English if the language is to be considered a true pluricentric language. The third paper is ‘Firefox add-on for UCSI University online materials using XUL’. This paper is meant to present the modified means of accessing the online learning portal (eAdvantage) of the UCSI University, by adding a new interface features to make it better and less time consuming for student to download their online course materials. The fourth paper entitled ‘Awareness and Adoption of University Smart Card: The Case of UUM’. The author focused on the study at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) since UUM was the pioneer adopter and implementer of smart card among universities in Malaysia. This study was conducted to identify the awareness and adoption of the current applications of university smart cards. The fifth paper, ‘The role of higher education in national development: How e-learning can facilitate for private higher education in Malaysia?’. The author argues that worldwide there is lack of research being done on the relationship between national development and elearning in supporting higher education in Malaysia. This scenario has provided gaps in understanding the education system as a key point in any process of national development.

The entire volume is a must read as it is a compilation of researches, valuable ideas and knowledge by practitioners, academicians and contributors, that should be added to your library of collections. I would like to thank all reviewers for their invaluable contributions to making this issue a success.

Thank you.
