WHAT WILL THE eADVANTAGE DO FOR ME?

Through the UCSI eAdvantage initiative, you will have a world of knowledge at your fingertips.  Using course-specific software and the Internet, notebook computers can be used as tools to enhance the course discussion and to do work inside and outside classrooms.  You can browse through the course syllabus or selected research materials, download lecture or tutorial notes, e-mail your lecturers, participate in online discussions, check your class schedules and grades or simply surf the Internet.  This initiative realises University College Sedaya International's goal of providing you access to the world's knowledge from your preferred location whether from your room at home or from any part of the campus or the world.

WHAT MAKES THE UCSI eADVANTAGE AN ADVANTAGE?

The use of computers have become pervasive in the last decade.  We want you to be competitive in this new and changing marketplace.  By participating in the UCSI eAdvantage, you will use today's technology to develop the advanced analytical skills you will need to adapt to in an ever-changing study/work environment.  To spearhead our Wireless Campus, UCSI, in partnership with Lenovo is proud to announce its innovative Computer Notebook Ownership Scheme to all newly-enrolled students.

WHAT WILL IT COST?

New students who enroll in any UCSI degree, diploma and foundation programme will automatically qualify to purchase a computer notebook at a subsidized price.  There will not be an extra cost in students' tuition fees.  Students are encouraged to own a notebook computer for their advantage in participating in this initiative.  Kindly contact UCSI Marketing Department (Tel: 03-91018880) for further information on notebook pricing and subsidy.

WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO BE A UCSI eADVANTAGE STUDENT

Imagine Yourself...

7 a.m. In the morning, power up your notebook in your room, check for any e-mail and send an e-mail to your parents or friends. On the breakfast table, check the latest news and sports scores from previous night's games. Very quickly, check the lecture topic for the day and add some thoughts to your business case discussion.

8:30 a.m. Arriving at your economics lecture hall, you sit down, greet your mates and plug into the Internet. Your professor begins his lecture discussing the elasticity of supply and demand. You download the notes on this topic and some graphics and charts relating to it. You alter the quantity and price factor and the software automatically charts the graph for you. The professor begins to discuss the effect of quantity and prices on elasticity of demand and supply curves. The professor walks around and encourages students to discuss the charts together. And so the class continues…

10:15 a.m. You are in the library at the electronic carrel. After checking your e-mails, you connect to the electronic newspaper ( The Star online ) and Asia Week. Next you check the homepage for your English course and you are reminded by your professor to read some passages from a novel in the Shakespeare website. The business professor had also requested you to read a particular case study before the next class from The Fortune magazine website. It’s cool and interesting and decide to stay a little longer.

11:00 a.m. The most boring class for the semester, Moral. You think to yourself that this is going to be another dreadful day. Maybe not ! Today, the professor has a video clip to show and of course it is no longer a monotone from the professor. The animated video was very interesting. We get to hear from HIV patients and their experiences. The video was downloaded from the eAdvantage server. You were wrong, it is no longer boring.

After lunch It is off to business class – the professor summarizes the electronic case discussion and the class discussion is focused on a couple of key points. You review the electronic share market game. One of your classmates identified that a particular share has doubled in value over the past few weeks and wonders why. The professor has no idea but he could find out before the next class. The class continues with the discussion on the assignments for the next day. One of the students raises his hand and says he found the answer to the share value. He accessed a corporate research page from his seat and discovered that the company had made a major acquisition over the last few days. The class continues…

At 4 p.m. You meet your business group in the students’ centre to discuss your business project. It requires you to surf the Internet to find the latest in business merger in Asia. You are required to research on the impact before and after the merger. The websites were useful as well as the business reviews and the information published in consultancy companies.

At about 5 p.m. You are back in the library to do some quiet work, of course with the assistance of the notebook. With the facilities of the electronic library, you managed to get hold of some journals and print them out for your IT course. After that you access the server to do some computing work.

It’s about 10 p.m., You are back in your own room. You check for incoming e-mails. Finally, a note from your mom with her latest photo. Your professor has returned one of your assignment from the IT course you submitted last week. There were with a good grade and good comments. However, you could not understand one of his comments and e-mail your professor a question. Then, you surf the Internet for a while and finally some well deserved rest.
